Week 35 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Season Total stocking to date: 27,300
Weather wise the week started off as per the previous week with nice calm days, fish rising as far as you could see and the buzzer hatches remained consistent. Then towards the back end of the week we were soon reminded it is the end of October and had showers paired up with relatively high winds. That said, Ladybower is looking pretty special right now in its autumnal colours.
Fly choice and method had to be matched to the conditions you were faced with. The start of the week buzzers were high on the menu and small cdc Shuttlecock or shipman patterns were favourite, followed closely by the usual daddies with a foam body or tied hog style. From Thursday onwards as the more unsettled weather hit us it was apparent that larger patterns such as suspender minkies still brought fish up and chasing on the surface, especially close to the banks. Snakes and blobs fished on a fast glass also kept making an appearance in catch returns.
As mentioned in the previous report, the bank fishing is really coming into its own right now as fish come closer in, in search of slightly warmer water. The office bank / old road have been extremely popular and good numbers have come from these spots this week.
Friday we stocked another 1,000 fish up at Grainfoot. We maybe coming towards the end of the season but we'll keep pumping those fish in until we close (end of November)
No lumps reported this week, still plenty out there, and plenty of time to have a crack at them. This is the time of year they'll be looking to sustain their weight by switching on to a fry diet. A new PB could be waiting for you!
Don't forget.... Ladybower home of the big bows...

• Jake Clowes and Luke Staton ventured out on Wednesday. They commented on finding fish 'EVERYWHERE!' They netted 23 on a mixed of dries, pulling and washing lining.

A quick note on catch returns...
Just of late we've had a few returns not handed back in after a session. Please could we kindly ask to be sure to hand your return in at either the fishery office, which is open until 6pm or one of the catch return boxes. These boxes are located on the fence next to the fishery office or at the gate for the Derwenìt arm. We rely on these returns for our stocking program so the more returns we get the more fish will be there for you to catch next time!
Also, don't forget, when you hand a correctly filled out return in to us, its automatically entered in to the monthly draw for a free C+R ticket on your next visit so what's there to lose! Keep your eyes peeled on our page for this months winner
A reminder that our fishery manager, Warren Langridge, is now set up to offer tuition and fully guided fishing trips. You can book via the office on 01433 659712 or by using the link on this page of our website: https://www.ladybowerfisheries.co.uk/tuition
A few words about the rules…..
The new cages have a 50m exclusion zone around them (indicated by a perimeter of buoys). Please respect this perimeter and do not cross into it. This applies to everybody.
Ladybower Fisheries would once again like to remind all our boat anglers that standing up in the boat to fish or motor is strictly prohibited. We’re still seeing isolated instances of this practice, but thankfully most seem to have got the message. Safety on the water is of paramount importance to all of us. Please follow the rules (they’re there for a very good—and sadly tragic—reason which occurred at another UK reservoir). Please remain seated. Many thanks.
