Stocking this week: 750 Season Total stocking to date: 22,039 Weekly Rod Average: 5.4
Fishing has continued to be good at Ladybower, a result of our cool deep water giving refuge to trout from the warmer surface layers. Having this availability of colder areas gives the trout their second wind and has them feeding positively right up to the surface so dry fly action remains excellent although other methods will still catch should you wish to employ them. As a result, catch returns have remained fairly consistent this week aided by the stocking of fish earlier on. Wind speeds have once again been fairly low, although variable in direction, with most days starting as a millpond developing a gentle ripple towards lunch and then a little stronger most afternoons although one or two isolated gusts have made the drogue a good deployment..
The rod average has risen to a more than respectable at 5.4 with most fish still falling to dry flies in open water spread quite equally around the reservoir, Daddies (as usual 😂) featuring on the catch reports more than most other flies combined. However, fish are still being picked up much deeper (8 - 15ft) to snakes, boobies and humongous to those preferring a good work out pulling a fast glass.
Line selection is similar to last week. Floating remain the top choice, with 12ft tips appearing regularly in reports often with washing line tactics. Fast Glass and booby bashers are also in evidence once again.
Stocking for the season to date is 22,039 blue and rainbow trout. Water levels continue to drop so in the interest of fish welfare in the reduced reservoir area we may review the numbers we stock and the interval. Rest assured, you will still be in for an arm aching, rod bending experience! Once again, and we keep on saying it, come and have a go at Ladybower, home of the big Bows…….😎😎😎

🎣 Notable catches this week:
• Jack Vallis…….what can I say? 😎 A red letter day for him of 20 fish including a huge great lump of a blue weighing in at 21lbs, pictures of which you may have seen previously. The lad was still dancing about when he got back to the jetty. Dries, and particularly a brown Daddy were Hack’s choice and as for areas, his catch return just says ‘EVERYWHERE’. 😎
• Matt Harris has become a bit of a fixture at Ladybower of late. All the way from Cambridge no less and now fully cable of telling the time after an intervention and serious coaching….😂 Matt helped himself to 21 fish on floating Daddies and Beetles in the main basin, his favourite haunt.
• Richard Walker……our intrepid solo angler is another familiar face these days making the most of his considerable angling skill over a couple of days utilising a fast glass, a 12ft slow tip and the obligatory floater on the Friday and a floater on the Saturday. His areas of battle were Raspberry Bay and the entrance to the Derwent arm just past the Ashopton Viaduct. Flies of choice consisted of Beetles, Caddis, Daddiea and Blobs on the first day and CDC Hare’s Ear and Daddies on the second. In total Richard caught 34 fish, all returned. Well done! 👍😎
Top Lines This Week: • Floating Line • 12’ slow tip • 18’ sink tip • Fast Glass
The new cages have a 50m exclusion zone around them (indicated by a perimeter of buoys). Please respect this perimeter and do not cross into it. This applies to everybody. 👍
Ladybower Fisheries would, once again, like to remind all our boat anglers that standing up in the boat to fish or motor is strictly prohibited. We’re still seeing isolated instances of this practice but thankfully most seem to have got the message. Safety on the water is of paramount importance to all of us. Please, follow the rules (they’re there for a very good, and sadly tragic reason which occurred at another Uk reservoir). Please remain seated. 👍 Many thanks. 😎
