Week 20 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Stocking Friday 11th July: 1,140
Season Total stocking to date: 20,140
Weekly Rod Average: 4.8
The week started off very cloudy with the resultant increase in catch rates before the sun and heat made a devastating appearance from Thursday onwards making conditions challenging. Boats have started to gain ascendancy over bank anglers as the fish seek cooler water giving a still respectable repeat rod average of 4.8 for the week with many fish still being caught on dries in the more sheltered areas, although as you’d expect, anglers are beginning to catch deeper with egg flies, blobs and shammies under the bung. Foam Daddies still figure large in our catch reports despite the bright conditions, and as we move towards a cooler period of time we expect this to continue.
An extra top-up of 1,140 fish on Friday has brought the total stocking for the season to date up to 20,140 blue and rainbow trout, some of which are still into double figures. As we say, as usual, come and have a go for one of the beasts.
Anglers are still using floating line with dries and nymphs but heavier sinking lines as well as long midge tips and intermediates are scoring week on the brighter days. Fish are holding in the first couple of metres although on the brighter days reports are coming of fishing around ten feet down.
Notable catches this week:
• England Captain Frank Sumnall scored a great 14 to his boat with dries.
• Tony Smith fished the Derwent Arm with Daddies and Boobies with sinking and floating lines.
• Pete Skelton was also up the Derwent arm helping himself to 16 fish on CDC dries
• DCAC member Des Palmer chose the calmer waters of Raspberry Bay to enjoy a great day on dries with a veritable 13 to the boat.
Well done all!
