Catch Report Week 21

Week 21 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries

Season Total stocking to date: 20,140
Weekly Rod Average: 4.7

After an incredibly busy weekend Monday started off warm and sunny again with a fair number of boats out and this number steadily increased to capacity throughout the week. The change to cooler, more cloudy conditions had the fish in the upper reaches of the water giving a steady catch return very similar to last week. Boats have once again had the advantage over bank anglers with fish still seeking cooler water giving a still respectable rod average of 4.7. CDCs, popper hoppers, the inevitable Foam Detached Body Daddies as well as a plethora of standard lures appear regularly in our catch reports and as we move towards what will hopefully be a restrained summer period we expect this to continue.

Stocking for the season to date remains at 20,140 blue and rainbow trout, some of which are into double figures. As usual, and we keep on saying it, come and have a go for one of the beasts…….

Anglers are still using floating line with dries and nymphs but heavier sinking lines as well as long midge tips and intermediates are scoring on the brighter days. Fish are holding in the first couple of metres.

Notable catches this week:

• Scott Graham arrived in the pouring rain and wrinkled out 15 rainbows off the point opposite the house and in the main basin with a floating line and dries including black CDCs. He said he was also aware of fishing holding lower down at around 10ft but ‘nothing in between’.

• Alan Wither fished a washing line on a 12’ slow tip at the Dam and Raspberry Bay incorporating Daddies, Black and Green lures and Pitsford Peas, as well as Snakes on a more direct approach when things got tough to finish with 15 fish.

• Dave Morris took a solo boat out during the deluge this weekend making a good account of himself with 13 fish, ‘Daddies in the morning and Boobies in the afternoon’ at the Old Telegraph Pole

• Richard Walker chose the Dam and main basin area, helping himself to 11 rainbows, all on Brown Foam Daddies.

Well done all!

A brief note to add that Severn Trent Water are conducting pump installation works for a few weeks in Ladybower Bay and will be using the fishery frontage as a stores area for a period of time during this process. This area will be cordoned off and regulated so that our anglers can access the boat jetty but do please take extra care when walking to and from the fishery from the office.

Ladybower Fisheries would, once again, like to remind all our boat anglers that standing up in the boat to fish or motor is strictly prohibited. Safety on the water is of paramount importance to all of us. Please, follow the rules (they’re there for a very good and sadly tragic reason) and remain seated. Many thanks.
