Week 19 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Overview
A week of settled weather has seen Ladybower spring into life. The occasional shower and fresh breeze helped re-oxygenate the surface layers, and when conditions settled, the fish came on the feed in a big way.
Spring Open Competition – Saturday 5th July
We held our rescheduled Spring Open on Saturday and saw an incredible day’s sport.
A total of 22 anglers landed an astonishing 567 fish, resulting in a rod average of 25.8 – one of the highest we’ve seen. Conditions were ideal, with light winds and overcast skies, and the fish responded in style.
Successful Tactics
• Blobs, foam Daddies and bright boobies on the point
• Dry flies also accounted for a large number of fish throughout the day.
Top 3 Competition Results
• 1st – Phil Dixon with 92 fish
• 2nd – Mark Harrison with 54 fish
• 3rd – Tony Smith with 47 fish
Where the Fish Are
The bulk of the fish remain concentrated in the open water in front of Raspberry Bay. The Derwent Arm has seen less activity this week, but this may be down to fewer anglers heading up there. The main basin continues to produce steady numbers to dry flies in open water.
