Week 15 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Rod Average: 6.1
Total Stocking to Date: 17,425
Week 15 brought more settled weather than the previous week, giving anglers some excellent sport right across the reservoir. Recent showers helped oxygenate the surface layers, and the trout certainly responded!
Hot Spots:
• Derwent Arm
• Raspberry Bay
• Old Telegraph Pole
• Main Basin
We’ve also seen a few of our resident beasts showing up in recent days — and they’re looking in great condition.
Neil Davitt was thrilled to land a personal best of 14lb 5oz in Raspberry Bay, fishing a DI3 line with an orange snake. There are rumours of an even bigger fish having been caught... watch this space for updates!
On Friday, we welcomed another top-up of fish, bringing our season total stocking to an impressive 17,425 rainbow, blue, and a touch of brown trout.
Angler Highlights:
• Steve Cox landed 17 fish along Old Telegraph Pole Bank using floating lines and GRHE patterns.
• Russell Dolman had a fantastic session in Raspberry Bay, tempting fish on tiny dry flies down to size 18 — with Grey Dusters and Winged Wickhams doing the damage.
• Dave Hudson built a cracking 21-fish bag fishing Raspberry Bay, Old Telegraph Pole, and Millbrook. Using an intermediate line, with boobies and blobs twiddled slowly, he found great success.
• Dorian Wilmore tops this week’s haul with 24 fish, alternating between intermediate and floating lines and presenting boobies and olive/white lures — mostly in Raspberry Bay.
Monthly Catch Return Draw
A quick reminder that we’ll soon be drawing this month’s winner of our ‘correctly filled-in catch return card’competition.
These returns are incredibly valuable to us for stock management and conservation — thank you to everyone who completes them!
Top Lines This Week:
• Floating Line
• Intermediate
• Sinking lines up to DI3
Best Flies:
• Blobs
• Boobies (various colours)
• Popper Hoppers
• Parachutes
• Foam Daddies
• Olive or White Lures
Boat Angler Reminder
Please remember: standing up in the boat (to fish or while motoring) is strictly prohibited. I spoke to a couple of anglers this weekend about this. Safety is paramount on the water — and recent sad events elsewhere are a stark reminder of why this matters. Please, stay seated and stay safe.
