Week 13 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Floating Lines and Foam Dries Dominate – See What’s Catching This Week!
Season Total Stocking to Date: 14,900
Weekly Rod Average: 7.5
The weather’s taken a turn this week with a stiff breeze and patchy rain making conditions on the water a little more challenging. If you're heading out on a boat, bringing a drogue is strongly advised—it’ll make life a lot easier!
Despite the blustery conditions over the weekend, the rod average has held strong at 7.5, with a huge number of fish still falling to dry flies in open water. Daddies, black gnats, parachutes, Klinkhammers and foam-headed suspender buzzers have all done well. And for the lure and nymph fans—yes, you’re still in business too! Picking a standout method remains a tough call… but that’s not a bad problem to have.
Floating lines remain the top choice, with washing lines on long sink tips also performing strongly. Intermediatescontinue to be productive from both boat and bank as fish remain high in the water column.
Notable Catches This Week:
• Nick Halstead boated 50+ near the Ashopton Viaduct using a Midas dry fly – up from his 40+ the week before!
• Dave Morris landed 40 using a midge tip, hoppers and boobies across Underbank, Snake Meadow and Mill Brook on a full day C&R ticket.
• Scott Graham (a true Welsh rarebit!) caught 30 around Ladybower Bay, Raspberry Bay and Ashopton Viaduct.
• Alistair Beaumont deserves a nod for a fine 25 from the boat, starting on dries before switching to blobs and boobies along both arms of the reservoir.
Don’t forget—we’ll be drawing the latest winner of our monthly correctly filled-in Catch Return Card competition at the end of May. These returns are vital to the fishery, and we’re grateful to everyone who takes the time to complete them.
