Catch Report Week 4

Week 4 - 2026 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries

Season Total stocking to date: 6,900

A pretty dismal week on the weather front which has kept a few of you at home, can't blame you really The week started off with some sleat and snow then high winds at the back end of the week. Sadly Saturday we didn't allow boats out.

Those that have braved it have mainly stuck to the banks and have caught fish. In fact a very respectful rod average of over 5.

When conditions allowed a few boats did make their way out and found fish in the usual early season hot-spots. Tactics have had to be adopted to the situation on the day, with the higher winds, a fast glass and di3 have been useful from the boats. Bright snakes, damsel patterns, cats and black and green all popular choices still.

The bank has still fished well in the right areas. The jettys still holding a lot of fish as well as Ladybower bay and grainfoot. Again, adopting your approach to the wind conditions was essential. A floating line teamed with a weighted lure or the bung set 4-6ft down are both a good start. Windier days a midge tip or slow intermediate to dig in a bit are a good shout.

As it stands this week has been a lot more settled, at the time of writing we've a nice overcast, warmer temperatures and some high pressure coming through. High pressure keeps fish up in the water as a general rule of thumb and with better temperatures forecast it should make for a pleasant week.

This weekend also sees us host the Fastmail Pairs, run by Phil Dixon. This is a great, fun and friendly competition where you fish with your mate for a chance to win some top prizes and a chance to go through to the grand final. The grand final sees over £3,500 worth of cash and prizes given away!

Top returns

Young maestro, Isaac Slack, bank fished at the beginning of the week. Venturing up to Grainfoot and casting in to the wind he netted 14 fish. His tactics were an intermediate with a weighted damsel. Hard work pays off, well done mate.

Top boat were Prince Albert members Mick and Dennis, together they racked up a respectful 19 to the boat. They fished up the Derwent arm and put the bung to great use.
