Week 33 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Season Total stocking to date: 25,200
Weather improves, and so does the fishing!
With October now well and truly upon us, the water temperature at the magical 14 degrees and black buzzer hatches coming off daily, this week has seen Ladybower hit back to its impressive form.
Not that the reservoir needed it but the introduction of 1,200 rainbows on Wednesday certainly stirred up the residents and top of the water sport has once again been incredible.
The Derwent arm has spung into life especially of late with Grainfoot to Millbrook being a great drift to do. The Ashopton viaduct has also continued to produce as well as the whole of the main basin.
This weekend we had the pleasure of the Welsh youth hosting their annual friendly competition with Dan Owen taking the honours, well done mate.
Dan commented how how exceptional the fishing had been for them over Saturday and Sunday. The main methods they deployed were floating lines teamed with boobies, hoppers, corms and daddies. Their rod average between them for both days was a cracking 8.7!!
On to big fish, and their back showing!
We had a number of doubles caught this weekend with one around the 20lb mark caught by the welsh lads!
Other specimens netted included a fin perfect rainbow at 15lb (pictured) and several other fish around the 10lb mark.
It's worth mentioning that these fish are now on the feed properly. To sustain their weights they'll soon be turning on to the abundance of coarse fish fry present in the water. Fry time is going to be explosive!
Notable Catches This Week:
• Hefin ans Shane were part of the Welsh party. They netted a very respectful 23 and 21 to the boat across Saturday and Sunday. Crooked Hill meadow and the Telegraph pole were their main areas. Methods were twiddling daddies, candy boobies and size 14 black hoppers.
• Stephen Roberts had a good day Saturday. He used a floating line and a black daddy to great effect. Steve also had a lump of a Rainbow pictured in the net. Well done.
• Dan Owen took top spot with 25 on Saturday and 21 on Sunday. A superb consistent performance.

A quick note on catch returns...
Just of late we've had a few returns not handed back in after a session. Please could we kindly ask to be sure to hand your return in at either the fishery office, which is open until 6pm or one of the catch return boxes. These boxes are located on the fence next to the fishery office or at the gate for the Derwenìt arm. We rely on these returns for our stocking program so the more returns we get the more fish will be there for you to catch next time!
Also, don't forget, when you hand a correctly filled out return in to us, its automatically entered in to the monthly draw for a free C+R ticket on your next visit so what's there to lose! Keep your eyes peeled on our page for this months winner
A reminder that our fishery manager, Warren Langridge, is now set up to offer tuition and fully guided fishing trips. You can book via the office on 01433 659712 or by using the link on this page of our website: https://www.ladybowerfisheries.co.uk/tuition
A few words about the rules…..
The new cages have a 50m exclusion zone around them (indicated by a perimeter of buoys). Please respect this perimeter and do not cross into it. This applies to everybody.
Ladybower Fisheries would once again like to remind all our boat anglers that standing up in the boat to fish or motor is strictly prohibited. We’re still seeing isolated instances of this practice, but thankfully most seem to have got the message. Safety on the water is of paramount importance to all of us. Please follow the rules (they’re there for a very good—and sadly tragic—reason which occurred at another UK reservoir). Please remain seated. Many thanks.
