Week 28 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Season Total stocking to date: 22,039
Weekly Rod Average: 7.6
Rain, rain and a bit more rain was the story last week! Although by the back end of the week it gradually turned out nice, with the weekend especially being pleasant.
The rain certainly seemed to freshen things up as it breaks up the water’s surface and increases the oxygen levels in the water. We noticed that as it was raining it seemed to put the fish off feeding right on the surface — understandably! But as it stopped raining and the weather turned nice afterwards, the trout were right back on the surface and in abundance 🎣
With that said, it’s understandable that dry fly has still been the main choice of tactics. Hoppers, sedges, shuttlecocks, Shipman’s and the ever-popular foam daddy all remain consistent.
The most productive areas we’ve seen over the catch reports have been the main basin, dam, top of the Snake Arm and around the Ashopton Viaduct.
A couple of really nice fish made an appearance last week. Jack Vallis landed another double-figure rainbow — he certainly seems to be a magnet for the big ’uns! 😀
Another fin-perfect fish around the 12lb mark was caught by a lucky angler at the weekend. Interestingly, these fish were not part of the big fish stocking we did back in July, proving that Ladybower has enough of a food source to not only support its resident trout, but for them to thrive and grow on also!
Don’t forget it 😉 – Ladybower, home of the big Bows…….🎣🎣

🎣 Notable catches this week:
• We had the pleasure of welcoming the Nymphomaniacs team from Friday through to Sunday. They reported some incredible scores! Gareth Jones noted 35+ trout on Saturday to dries. Kieron Jenkins recorded 36 fish on a mix of shuttlecocks and hoppers up the Snake Arm on Sunday.
• Tony Smith, being as consistent as ever, landed 20 on Sunday. He fished the basin and the Viaduct, noting that fish seemed to be tucked into the margins. Flies of choice for him were a mix of daddies and hoppers, then coral boobies if pulling/twiddling — all on a floater.
• Jack Westbury had a great session in the basin. He swapped between dries and lures to put together a fantastic tally of 24.
Top Lines This Week:

A few words about the rules…..😉👍
The new cages have a 50m exclusion zone around them (indicated by a perimeter of buoys). Please respect this perimeter and do not cross into it. This applies to everybody. 👍
Ladybower Fisheries would, once again, like to remind all our boat anglers that standing up in the boat to fish or motor is strictly prohibited. We’re still seeing isolated instances of this practice, but thankfully most seem to have got the message. Safety on the water is of paramount importance to all of us. Please, follow the rules (they’re there for a very good, and sadly tragic reason which occurred at another UK reservoir). Please remain seated. 👍 Many thanks. 😎
