Catch Report Week 23

Week 23 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries

Stocking this week: 1,070
Season Total stocking to date: 21,289
Weekly Rod Average: 5.19

Top of water fishing is consistently good , with water temperatures still only 15* at thirty five feet, with our max depth of 120ft we are confident this excellent surface feeding activity will continue into the summer.

We’re very pleased to offer first class top-of-the-water sport even in these warmer days. Ladybower is quite unique amongst UK reservoirs due to the conditions mentioned above.

Large numbers of anglers are booking boats and those that prefer the bank continue to enjoy high rod averages. Once again we’d like to thank all those who filled in their catch returns, helping us judge the correct number of fish to stock, where and when. This week gone has, similar to Week 22, seen weather fluctuations from sunny through to high winds and pretty heavy rain making fishing a little unpredictable although the fish as mentioned above remain in the upper reaches of the water maintaining excellent fishing.

Stocking for the season to date is 21,289 blue and rainbow trout. Once again, and we keep on saying it, come and have a go at Ladybower, home of the big Bows…….

Anglers are still favouring floating line with dries and nymphs but fast glass are scoring when the surface action abates.

Notable catches this week:

• The welcome return of Ben ‘Moustache’ Fox to Ladybower resulted in him accounting for 35 fish to his boat from Raspberry Bay into the Main Basin. Ben chose to buck the trend pulling Coral and Pink Boobies on a fast and slow glass lines with a long hang at the end of the retrieve.

• One of our top advocates, Matt Nuttall was here taking a solo afternoon boat last Tuesday. His frantic four hours resulted in 26 fish mostly on Daddies although he did report success on a fast glass with Boobies and Daddies combined. These came from Raspberry Bay and in front of the Ashopton Viaduct.

• Matt Harris had a good day at Dingbank and in front of the Surgeon’s House employing Daddies and other large Dry Flies to accumulate an excellent return of 25 rainbows.

• Josh Hoskins, one of the regular British Disabled Angling Association clients at Ladybower excelled himself on a supported trip with Troy and Kathryn Chadwick managing 17 fish to the Pioner boat. Josh has become a consistent catcher of fish and is a credit to what the BDAA is all about.

Excellent stuff, so once again well done one and all!

Once again a reminder that Severn Trent Water are conducting pump installation works for a few weeks in Ladybower Bay and will be using the fishery frontage as a stores area for a period of time during this process. This area will be cordoned off and regulated so that our anglers can access the boat jetty but do please take extra care when walking to and from the fishery office.

There is now a 50m exclusion zone around the new cages indicated by a perimeter of buoys. Please respect this perimeter and do not cross into it. This applies to everybody.

Ladybower Fisheries would, once again, like to remind all our boat anglers that standing up in the boat to fish or motor is strictly prohibited. Safety on the water is of paramount importance to all of us. Please, follow the rules (they’re there for a very good, and sadly tragic reason) and remain seated. Many thanks.
