Ladybower Fly Fishing Reports 2017

March/17

Waters are beginning to warm up due to the typical British climate being up and down as always in this upper water region.

Bank anglers predominantly ran the roost early season with some nice bags including double figure fish caught by Troy Chadwick 14.5lb and Attica Pintor 14.4lb.

Mid March saw the boats starting to come into play with mixed weight bags being seen, some of the double figure fish caught by Richard Granger 14.6lb, Paul Greeves 17lb and Mr Woodcock 20lb.

Rod average: 3.8

Best Fish for the month:  Mr Woodcock 20lb Rainbow

Fly patterns: Lures Olive, Black and Green, Naturals and Buzzers

Lines: Floating and Intermediate

Methods: Moderate figure of eight and stripping

Hatches: Buzzer

 

The trout are moving out but also localising near the margins sitting at depths between 2ft and 6ft, in periods of warmer weather the trout are rising.

 

April/17

Waters have warmed up slowly due to the mixed weather we have had including the wind from every direction (typical British weather) Bank and Boat anglers are recording good reports of some nice bags including double figure fish caught by Steve Redfern 12lb, Thomas Wood 7lb and Fred Chorlton 8lb

Best Fish for the month:  Steve Redfern 12lb

Fly patterns: Lures Olive, Black and Green, Mayfly Nymph, naturals a buzzers

Lines: Floating and Intermediate

Methods: Moderate figure of eight and stripping

Hatches: Buzzer, Midges, caddis and signs of Mayfly in certain area

May/17

Waters have warmed up slowly due to the mixed weather we have had including the wind from every direction (typical British weather)

 

We have had some good competition days with various clubs including Errwood and the Kingfishers on the boats and the BFTA have visited producing some good bags.

 

Bank and Boat anglers are recording good reports of some nice bags including double figure fish caught by Mr Goldthorpe 15lb Rainbow.

Fly patterns: Diawl backs, Black peacock spiders, hot head Damsels

Lines: Floating and Intermediate

Methods: Moderate figure of eight and stripping

Hatches: Buzzer, Midges, Caddis and signs of Mayfly and Duns

The trout are being located in the top layers of water around 4-5ft and still relatively close to the bank, some of the best time having been first thing in the morning with nymphs and there have been signs of Duns and Mayfly hatching in the late afternoon
